Metra is canceling four weekday trains on the Union Pacific Northwest line for seven weeks during upcoming track construction to minimize delays that will affect all other trains on the line.
The following trains will be canceled from Monday, Aug. 4, to Sept. 20, while Union Pacific Railroad replaces thousands of rail ties as part of essential track maintenance:
- Inbound train No. 648, the 11:45 a.m. departure from Crystal Lake
- Inbound train No. 654, the 2:45 p.m. departure from Crystal Lake
- Outbound train No. 621, the 9:35 a.m. departure from Chicago
- Outbound train No. 627, the 12:35 p.m. departure from Chicago
Metra said the trains would be canceled to reduce congestion and prevent significant delays on other trains. The work is expected to delay all trains for 10 minutes, with up to 30-minute delays for midday trains.
Union Pacific, which owns the line, will replace ties on all three tracks along an 24-mile work zone between Jefferson Park in Chicago and Barrington, Metra said.
