Missing swimmer from Montrose Beach reunited with family

A father who went missing while swimming in the deep end of the water at Montrose Beach Monday was found safe more than 36 hours later, according to his family.

Kevin Moctezuma, 33, told his sister Priscilla Moctezuma that he was somehow able to get out the water and had called 911.

He was then taken to Weiss Hospital where he stayed until he was discharged Wednesday morning, according to Priscilla Moctezuma.

“He was taken to the hospital with minor injuries but is now stable and surrounded by loved ones,” Priscilla Moctezuma, 35, said. “We are very grateful.”

Kevin Moctezuma was swimming with a friend around 4 p.m. Monday evening in the deep area of the water, Chicago police said. The friend made it back to shore but Moctezuma did not.

Priscilla Moctezuma told the Sun-Times her brother and his friend may have been intoxicated while swimming.

Authorities weren’t notified until Kevin Moctezuma’s mother called Monday night to report him missing.

Chicago Fire Department officials didn’t receive any 911 calls for a person in the water at the beach Monday evening, fire officials said.

Kevin Moctezuma has a 10-year-old daughter and is someone who is “very humble and keeps to himself,” his sister said.

“His life pretty much revolves around his daughter,” Priscilla Moctezuma said.
