MLB, Cubs set to announce next week that 2027 All-Star Game is coming to Wrigley Field

The Cubs, the City of Chicago, and Major League Baseball are set to officially announce next week that Wrigley Field has been awarded the 2027 All-Star Game.

Sun-Times sources confirmed the rollout, which will include officials from all parties, is scheduled for Aug. 1, as Crain’s Chicago Business reported Wednesday night.

The Cubs cleared the last big hurdle to winning the bid back in mid-June, when the Chicago City Council passed an ordinance to enhance security measures around Wrigley Field. That step allowed all parties to move ahead in hashing out further details and eventually finalize the Chicago-bound All-Star Game.

The Cubs declined to comment Thursday, but back on June 18, they put out a statement on the passing of the security plan.

“The Chicago Cubs thank Mayor Johnson’s administration, Ald. Bennett Lawson and the Chicago City Council, as well as Gov. Pritzker for partnering to enhance the safety of the entire neighborhood and the three million fans who visit Wrigley Field each year,” the statement read. “From day one, the Ricketts family has committed to being good neighbors to the city and our neighborhood, and this security investment is the latest example of that pledge.”

Wrigley Field has hosted three previous MLB All-Star Games, most recently in 1990.

With Kansas City’s direction unclear, Lugo has been the subject of trade rumors.
Happ has been out of his usual leadoff spot in the batting order since the Yankees series before the All-Star break.
