A disturbed Artemyev can be heard screaming “I hate people” during the bloodbath assault on the customers and staff.
The ex-fencer is said to have picked up a kitchen knife that was on display at the O’KEY outlet in St Petersburg.
He reportedly stabbed one woman in the chest before running around the meat counter and continuing his assault.
A security guard was also badly wounded in the knife frenzy along with three others.
Footage shows a group of heroic customers managing to surround the suspect and stop the attack.
They hit him repeatedly with a step ladder before being able to force him onto the ground in the meat aisle.
During the melee staff managed to alert cops through panic buttons.
They arrived within three minutes and handcuffed the suspect before taking him to the nearest police station.
The video shows dozens of armed cops and emergency specialists moving the man and helping to clear the supermarket safely.
All of the victims were rushed to hospital with no one believed to have died.
The supermarket was evacuated as forensic experts cordoned off the scene and began working on their investigations.
Harrowing pictures showed the aftermath inside the popular supermarket with witnesses saying they could see blood on the floor.
The suspect is now set to be charged with mass attempted murder, say local media.
He faces up to 20 years behind bars if found guilty.
Violence has reportedly been on the rise in Russia ever since Putin’s horror invasion of Ukraine over two and a half years ago.
