Moment stranger tries to snatch baby while mum looks the other way in Blackpool

Woman tried to abduct a baby from her pram outside a shop

Disguised in a mask and with a huge scar running down her forehead, a stranger tries to snatch a baby on the Blackpool beachfront teeming with families.

Nicolette Goldrick, 51, was caught on CCTV casually strolling up to a seven-month-old girl sitting upright in her pink pram, protected from the May sunshine with an umbrella.

With the mother briefly distracted and paying for a delivery at the beachfront shop, Goldrick struggles to lift off the pram’s brake.

Turning back to see who has noticed her abduction of the toddler sucking on a dummy, she briskly walks off.

Fortunately, the distressed mother notices her baby has gone and screams at the woman who didn’t make it out of sight with the girl on Central Drive at midday.

She and another Good Samaritan chase her down, she shouts: ‘What are you doing? You absolutely mad, raving lunatic?’

Goldrick said nothing as she turns the pram around and briskly walks away from the beachfront.

But the kidnap suspect returned to the area near the shop later that afternoon, where she was arrested.

She swore and abused officers as they forced her into a police van and once inside spat at one of them.

Goldrick pleaded guilty to child abduction and assaulting an emergency worker at Preston Crown Court.

Goldrick was jailed for a year after admitting her guilt. A restraining order was also made for five years.

Tom Snape, Senior Crown Prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service, said: ‘Nicolette Goldrick’s brazen actions caused unimaginable terror as she attempted to abduct a baby.

‘This incident encapsulates every parent’s worst nightmare, forcing her mother to chase after her.

‘Goldrick’s abuse to the officers upon her arrest suggests she has little remorse for her actions.

‘I hope the baby’s parents can begin to move forward knowing Goldrick has faced the consequences of her actions.’
