A woman was arrested Wednesday for allegedly shooting her South Side roommate after her toddler told a school bus driver about the incident, Chicago police said.
The mother was arguing about dishes with her 35-year-old female roommate around 7:30 a.m. at their home in the 8100 block of South Maryland Avenue when she pulled out a handgun and opened fire, Chicago police said.
She then left the apartment with her two children, ages 3 and 4, to take them to their nursery school bus, where one child told the driver about the alleged incident, according to a police report. The school bus driver returned the children back to their Chatham home.
The mother was arrested at her home. She remained in custody Thursday, but no charges have been filed, police said.
The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the stomach and was taken in critical condition to University of Chicago Medical Center, police said.
Both children were taken to Comer Children’s Hospital for an evaluation, according to the police report.
Area 2 detectives are investigating.
