Mother of schoolgirl, 11, ‘Scotland’s youngest drug death’ says she’s ‘numb’

The grieving mother of a schoolgirl who died in a suspected drug death has vowed to seek justice.

Olivia Curley, 11, fell ill on Friday and after loved ones became increasingly alarmed at her condition an ambulance was called out on Sunday.

She was rushed to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow and put in intensive care – but died on Monday.

Olivia, who was a pupil at Hermitage Academy, is believed to be the youngest victim of to drugs in Scotland – but the circumstances around how she may have taken drugs remain unclear.

Samantha Curley, Olivia’s mother, wrote on social media: ‘I honestly have no words. I am numb. Thank you everyone who has reached out.

‘My beautiful girl gained her angel wings today with everyone that loved her round her she passed peacefully.

‘Away up to her nana waiting on her. I know she will be well looked after with Mum waiting on her.

‘Fly high sweetheart. I promise I will keep your little sister safe.’

Samantha grew anxious after Olivia became unwell on Friday and continued to be ill on Saturday.

She told friends that Olivia ‘can’t even hold water down’.

After an ambulance was called, Samathana said: ‘My poor girl is ill, horrible when there is nothing I can do to help, wee soul.’

She then said her ‘darling sweetheart’ had died.

Samantha said: ‘My darling sweetheart this is the last night we will fall asleep together.

‘I just want you to know you made me a mum but although you were my daughter you were my strength.

‘I will never get over this sweetheart but I will tell you we will look after your little sister and justice will be done.

‘I will make sure about that. I don’t need to say anything other than you all have my daughter’s blood on your hands you all know who you are but not for long KARMA is a b***h.

‘Goodnight sweetheart love you more than you will ever know give Nana a big hug from us all my darling.’

Police Scotland have launched an investigation into Olivia’s death.

A spokesperson for the force said: ‘Around 11.40am on Monday, November 17, we received a report of an 11-year-old girl taken unwell in the Helensburgh area.

‘She had been taken to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow on Sunday, November 16, and died on Monday, November 17.

‘The death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.’
