A ‘much loved’ young mother died from injuries sustained in a car crash a day before her father’s death.

Shelley Feeney, aged in her 30s, spent nearly a week in hospital after a one-car crash in Ballymoney, Northern Ireland, on Monday, April 14.

The young mother died on Saturday, five days after the collision around 10.30am on Knockmore Road, Co Antrim. A child was also injured.

Shelley’s father, James, died suddenly on April 15. Shelley’s death has shaken community in this town of 11,000 people.

In a statement, Bushvalley Primary School, where Shelley worked, said: ‘It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Miss Shelley Feeney.

‘Shelley was not only a highly esteemed and valued classroom assistant, but she was also a friend and a very much loved member of the Bushvalley school family and community.

‘We pass on our sincere sympathies to Stephen, Jake and Sophie and our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family circle at this very difficult time.’

More than £22,000 was donated to a GoFundMe campaign launched by Mosside Presbyterian Church to help the family cover the cost of visiting Shelley in hospital.

One donor called Gillian said: ‘Money cannot help this tragic loss. However, use it to make new special memories as a family and remember loved ones.

‘I do not know you but may you feel the support of the whole community in the days ahead.’

A funeral notice described Shelley as the ‘dearly loved partner of Stephen’ and the ‘much loved mother of Jake and Sophie’.

Shelley will be buried in Ballymoney on Wednesday.

‘The community are really feeling the weight of what has happened but they are rallying round in an amazing way to help support the family’, Reverend Andre Alves-Areias said.
