CONCORD — A 27-year-old Pittsburg man is facing murder charges in connection with a fatal shooting Monday in Concord, police said.
Gunfire erupted around 3 a.m. near the intersection of Monument Boulevard and Reganti Drive, according to the Concord Police Department. Officers arrived to find the victim, identified as Omar Gonzalez, suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
Medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.
Detectives identified Chance Martin as a suspect in the fatal shooting. On Wednesday, detectives served warrants in Antioch and Pleasant Hill and arrested him.
The shooting appeared to stem from a dispute Martin was involved in with a group of people at a parking lot in the 1500 block of Monument Boulevard, according to police.
Martin drove away but returned a short time later and opened fire on the group from the window of his car, police said. One of the bullets hit and killed Gonzalez.
On Friday, detectives presented the case to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office, which charged Martin with murder, according to police. Martin remains in custody at the Martinez Detention Facility.
