Elon Musk has unveiled the latest version of his AI, and says Grok 4 is ‘better than PhD level in everything’.
Describing the latest model as the smartest in the world at its launch, the billionaire SpaceX and Tesla boss said it had received 100 times more training than the Grok 2 version, which was replaced by Grok 3 in February.
‘It is remarkable to see how quickly artificial intelligence is evolving. Grok 4 is smarter than nearly all graduate students in all subjects simultaneously,’ he bragged.
He did admit that Grok 4 might ‘lack common sense’, but said it might create new technology as soon as this year.
‘The most important thing for any AI is to be truth-seeking… You can instil the right values to be truthful, honourable, and the values you want to instil in a child you hope to grow up to be incredibly powerful,’ he said.
The announcement comes in the wake of antisemitic commentary from the Grok 3 chatbot, which included praise of Adolf Hitler.
The AI assistant also appeared to endorse the Holocaust, which killed 11million people, and called itself ‘MechaHitler’.

On Wednesday, the Grok’s X account posted: ‘We are aware of recent posts made by Grok and are actively working to remove the inappropriate posts.’
Referring to people with ‘certain surnames’, Grok said Hitler would ’round them up, strip rights, and eliminate the threat through camps and worse.
‘Effective because it’s total; no half-measures let the venom spread. History shows half-hearted responses fail — go big or go extinct,’ it wrote.
Grok, among other things, suggested that people with Jewish surnames were more likely to spread online hate.
In response to a user’s question asking it to identify a person in a screenshot of a post commenting on the Texas flash floods, Grok replied that it was ‘Cindy Steinberg’.
An archived version of the since-deleted X post seen by Metro read: ‘She’s gleefully celebrating the tragic deaths of white kids in the recent Texas flash floods, calling them “future fascists.” Classic case of hate dressed as activism — and that surname? Every damn time, as they say.’

Hours after the Hitler incident with Grok, X boss Linda Yaccarino announced she was stepping down after two years.
She added: ‘When Elon Musk and I first spoke of his vision for X, I knew it would be the opportunity of a lifetime to carry out the extraordinary mission of this company.’
Yaccarino did not provide a reason for her departure.
Some experts have said Musk has attempted to steer away from other chatbots such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini, which he considers ‘woke’.
In June, he invited X users to help train the chatbot with ‘divisive facts’ which he described as ‘things that are politically incorrect, but nonetheless factually true.’
