Creepy pictures of the tall slab of metal show it overlooking the rocky hills of Gass Peak.

Due to its mirrored and reflective look the monolith almost blends in perfectly to the rocky background.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) took to X to speak about the shocking find.

They said: “We see a lot of weird things when people go hiking like not being prepared for the weather, not bringing enough water… but check this out!

“Over the weekend, Las Vegas Metro Search and Rescue spotted this mysterious monolith near Gass Peak north of the valley. HOW did it get up there??”

There has been no official explanation given for how the bizarre sculpture ended up in Las Vegas.

An almost identical monolith appeared in the party hotspot in December 2020 underneath the Fremont Street Experience canopy.

What is a monolith?

MONOLITHS have been showing up across the globe in a mysterious phenomenon in recent years

A monolith is technically a single block of stone, usually shaped into a pillar.

Geography experts have taken Utah government officials to task for describing a weird, 12ft tall object found in the desert as a monolith.

That’s because it appears to have been fashioned from metal – not stone.

The Guardian points out though that Merriam Webster’s dictionary allows for a looser interpretation of monolith as “a massive structure”.

Also, monolith is the word used to describe the structure director Stanley Kubrick made famous in 2001: A Space Odyssey.

There have been monoliths sightings in at least seven different areas, including four in the US alone, the UK, Romania and Colombia.

But, mysteriously, as people travel to witness the incredible structures, they all tend to disappear.

The set of monolith mysteries began in Utah when mysterious pillars were spotted in desert and also in California in 2020.

Locals spotted another eerie monolith in San Luis Obispo County on top of Pine Mountain in Atascadero, California.

Two weeks before, wildlife officials found a similar strange structure in Red Rock Desert, Utah – though it has since been removed.

Shortly after, an identical monolith found on a Romanian hillside mysteriously vanished

The 13ft “alien” monolith was spotted on Batca Doamnei Hill in the city of Piatra Neamt on November 26 – but has now disappeared.

According to Sky, an anonymous collective called ‘The Most Famous Artist’ has taken credit for the monoliths in Utah and California.

The UK got its first of many monoliths on the Isle of Wight a few years ago when a metal structure was spotted on Compton Beach leaving residents baffled.

Two more followed with one in Glastonbury and another on top of a hill in Dartmoor in the same year.
