Temperatures in Chicago are expected to reach near-record highs over the weekend before a more seasonal cool-down early next week.
The high for Saturday is expected to be 87 degrees — three degrees shy of the record high for October 4 which was set in 1951, according to the National Weather Service.
The record for Oct. 5 was set in 1997 at 88 degrees, according to the weather service. The high is expected to be 85 degrees.
“We don’t officially have a record high being set forecast-ed, but we can certainly take a look and monitor it,” David King, a meteorologist with the weather service, said.
The average high for this weekend is 68 degrees, King said. Temperatures are expected to become more October-like as a front passes through the city next week.
