Neighbor shares footage of man running through bloody Andersonville alley where fatal gunshot victim found

Two men were found shot, one fatally, after a vehicle crashed into a garage Tuesday night in Andersonville on the North Side, according to officials.

A 26-year-old man with gunshot wounds to his shoulder and neck was found about 9:15 p.m. in the 5400 block of North Ashland Avenue, Chicago police said.

The 26-year-old told officers his vehicle was in an alley, according to police. Officers found the vehicle crashed into a garage and a 21-year-old man inside with a gunshot wound to his head, according to police and 40th Ward Ald. Andre Vasquez.

The younger man was pronounc saied dead at the scene. Paramedics treated the older man and took him in critical condition to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, police said.

There were no reports of shots fired in the area, so it is believed the shooting happened elsewhere, Vasquez wrote in a statement.

The Sun-Times spoke to a handful of neighbors near the scene Wednesday morning, none of whom said they heard gunfire.

“(We’ve) never had any violence around here, ever,” said John, a neighbor who asked only to be referred to by first name. “This is a quiet neighborhood. … All of our neighbors know each other. So it was very shocking, but the police response was enormous, and it was quick.”

John shared security camera video footage of a person running down his alley about 9:05 p.m.

“I never saw anybody run so fast in the snow in my life,” he said.

By 9:15 p.m., John said he was awakened by a flurry of police cars and sirens.

There was still a trail of blood visible in the snowy alley Wednesday morning, but no evidence of a crash.

Area 3 detectives are investigating. No arrests have been made.
