Just before 4:30 a.m., officers were called to the 5800 block of Jarvis Avenue for a report of a man who was pointing a gun at motorists in the area, the Newark Police Department said in a news release. They found the man at a nearby gas station.
The man did not comply with the officer’s commands and “an officer-involved shooting occurred with one officer discharging their service weapon,” according to police.
Officers provided medical aid to the man, who was taken to an area hospital for further treatment of injuries that were not considered life-threatening. He was listed in stable condition Friday.
No other injuries were reported.
Officers later determined the man’s firearm was a replica Glock pistol, police said.
Newark police detectives are investigating the shooting.
