Nicolas Cage: I didn’t pass ‘the mom test’ with Sarah Jessica Parker

As young stars in the late 1980s and early 1990s, Sarah Jessica Parker and Nicolas Cage each dated some famous people, so it’s not surprising that they dated each other, especially after they co-starred together in the 1992 rom-com, “Honeymoon in Vegas.”

But their romance was short-lived, as Cage revealed to E! News. The “Leaving Las Vegas” Oscar winner also said he could pinpoint the exact moment that he knew their relationship didn’t stand a chance.

“I cared about Sarah, but I don’t think I passed the mom test,” Cage told E! News.

“I recall sitting down with her and her mother for dinner at the Russian Tea Room, and I don’t know if it was my blue Vanson Leather motorcycle jacket (which I still have) or my sinusitis, but I didn’t hear from her again,” Cage said.

Then and now, Parker is known to be particularly close to her mother, Barbra Forste, the Daily Beast reported. Whether Forste was a factor in the end of the romance, Parker soon began dating future husband Matthew Broderick after previous relationships with Robert Downey Jr. and John F. Kennedy Jr. She and Broderick, who married in 1997, went on to have three children, 22-year-old son James and 16-year-old twins Tabitha and Marion.

Cage, who had previously romanced Brooke Shields, went on to marry five times, with one of those marriages only lasting four days. His wives included Patricia Arquette and Lisa Marie Presley, while he has been married to Riko Shibata since 2021.

Cage opened up about his time with Parker following her recent appearance on “Watch What Happens Live” Sunday, according to the New York Post. Host Andy Cohen, her longtime friend, asked “Did you date Nic Cage?”

Parker sheepishly replied, “Um, yes, I did. Yes, I did.”

“Oh wow,” Cohen said, joking that they had “some talking to do.”
