No. 1 De La Salle routs Monte Vista behind QB Toa Faavae, improves to 8-0

It was all De La Salle on Friday night.

The Spartans, playing at home in Concord, scored on touchdowns runs by Dominic Kelley and Toa Faavae in the first quarter and never looked back as they cruised over Monte Vista 42-7 on Homecoming night.

The Bay Area News Group’s top-ranked improved to 8-0. Monte Vista is 5-3.

De La Salle, coming off a dominant win a week earlier over San Ramon Valley, stretched its lead to 21-0 in the second quarter on Faavae’s 55-yard run. The quarterback then made it 28-0 when he connected on a 46-yard scoring pass to Emery Speight.

Faavae was 5 of 5 passing for 100 yards.

Kelley’s 22-yard run in the third quarter padded the margin to 35-0.

After Ian Ondricek’s 3-yard run in the third quarter brought Monte Vista to within 35-7, Gregory Jones completed the scoring for De La Salle with a 3-yard run in the fourth quarter, which was played with a running clock.
