North Berkeley BART station closed after woman struck by a train

BERKELEY — The North Berkeley BART station was closed Monday morning after a woman was struck by a train, officials said.

The woman, believed to be in her 40s, was removed from the trackway by Berkeley firefighters and taken to a hospital where she was initially reported to be in critical condition.

The woman was struck about 10 a.m.

The collision prompted the station to be closed and the Richmond line shut down in both directions, officials said.

BART said there was no signs of foul play.

No other information was immediately available.

Riders were being advised to take alternative routes before the station was reopened at 11 a.m..
