Nuggets to sign Bruce Brown in free agency, reuniting with championship guard, source says

The Nuggets are running back the clock and hoping to recapture some championship magic.

Free agent guard Bruce Brown has agreed to a one-year veteran minimum contract with Denver, a league source told The Denver Post, marking a return two offseasons after the Nuggets lost him in free agency.

Brown, who scored the bucket that gave Denver the lead for good late in Game 5 of the 2023 NBA Finals, signed with Indiana that summer on a two-year, $45 million deal. He was traded to Toronto and eventually New Orleans over the duration of that contract.

Brown has long maintained a fondness for the city of Denver and his Nuggets teammates. He kept a two-hour highlight video on his phone of every basket he ever made in a Nuggets uniform. In his lone season in Denver, he averaged 11.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game.

The reunion with Brown accompanies a shocking trade of Michael Porter Jr., another key player from the 2023 championship team. The Nuggets shed significant salary in that deal, giving the team more space under the salary cap.

This story is developing.
