OAKLAND — Police here have identified the city’s second homicide victim of 2025 as a Delaware native killed during a dispute outside his girlfriend’s home.
Marcus Brown, 25, was shot and killed around 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 1, outside a home on the 1200 block of 65th Avenue, authorities said. An online fundraiser for Brown’s family identifies him as a father of 11 whose children are all “deeply hurt.
“He was the most genuine, loving, caring brother, friend, and father,” the page says. It has raised $750 as of Thursday afternoon.
Police say Brown was not directly involved in the dispute, but rushed out of the home to intervene when he was killed. They say that a rifle was recovered from the crime scene, but have not said whether that was the suspected murder weapon.
No arrests have been announced and two eyewitnesses both claimed they didn’t see what happened, but that the other person did, according to authorities.
Anyone with information about Brown’s killing may reach police at 510-238-3821 or 510-238-7950. Anyone with videos or photos related to the shooting can email them to cidvideo@oaklandca.gov.
