Reyes Rodriguez was shot and killed around 4:30 a.m. on Sept. 2, near the intersection of 74th Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard, according to police. A 22-year-old woman also suffered injuries from being pistol-whipped. She later told police that she, Reyes Rodriguez and a second woman had gone to the area to confront that woman’s boyfriend, authorities said.

The woman identified the boyfriend by name, but police now believe that the name she gave was fake, and that the person they confronted was actually Fagoaga Rios. The confrontation may have been related to Fagoaga Rios’ car being spray painted with “unfaithful” and “liar” days earlier, authorities said.

Fagoaga Rios’ girlfriend, a Richmond resident, was also arrested on suspicion of murder and accessory, but later released without charges, authorities said.

Fagoaga Rios has pleaded not guilty and is next due in court on Dec. 12 for a pretrial hearing.
