Oakland man charged with murder in fatal gas station shooting

OAKLAND — A local resident has been charged with murder after police identified him as the shooter in an April 23 homicide, court records show.

Ramon Ramirez, 46, was charged with murdering 31-year-old Jordan Gutter, who was outside of his car pumping gas on International Boulevard when a person walked up, shot him and ran to a waiting Buick LeSabre, authorities said. Ramirez has not yet entered a plea and jail records indicate he is out of custody.

When police arrested Ramirez on April 24, he was driving the same Buick seen on surveillance footage from the homicide. He denied being involved in the shooting and claimed he had lent the car to a friend that day, police said in court filings.

Police haven’t released the suspected motive.

The shooting happened about 11:07 p.m. on April 23, at the Royal Gas Station, located at 10151 International Boulevard in Oakland.

An online fundraiser for Gutter identified him as “a loving father, son, and brother with a contagious smile and loving heart.”

“Jordan loved acting and making people laugh. If you were in the presence of Jordan, you were for sure laughing and having a good time,” the fundraiser says. “This loss is deeply felt by everyone who knew him.”
