O’Hare reaches all-time June high in passenger traffic

Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport reached an all time June high in passenger traffic with over eight million travelers passing through the airport.

It also marked the second busiest month for the airport in its 70 year history, only behind July 2019, the Mayor’s Office said in a statement.

“O’Hare’s tremendous growth in passengers and operations this summer underscores Chicago’s historic role as a critical travel hub,” Mayor Brandon Johnson said in the statement. “As we welcome millions of travelers to our city, we proudly position Chicago not just as the world-class destination it is, but as a world-class gateway to destinations across the globe.

O’Hare saw an 8.72 percent increase in June passengers compared to June 2024, according to data from the Chicago Department of Aviation. June recorded more than 77,000 takeoffs and landings, a 13.45 percent jump from June of the previous year.

In the first half of 2025, more than 40.1 million travelers passed through O’Hare and TSA screening records have continued to break at O’Hare this summer with nine daily screening records being set since June 19, officials said.

“The record-breaking passenger volumes we’re seeing at O’Hare are a clear sign that travel to and from Chicago is not just back — it’s booming,” CDA Commissioner Michael J. McMurray said. “The CDA is proud to build on the strong partnerships with our hub carriers
and other airline partners that are making this summer the busiest in the history of Chicago’s airports.”
