Ohio State or Indiana? Georgia or Alabama? Texas Tech or BYU? Championship Saturday predictions

Predictions for Saturday’s college football conference championship games:

Big 12: No. 4 Texas Tech (-12½) vs. No. 11 BYU (11 a.m., ABC 7): Aside from more talent, more speed, a better quarterback and a tougher defense, what do the Red Raiders have that the Cougars don’t? They already played once, in November, and it was 29-7 Tech in West Texas. Call it 34-21 in the rematch as the Cougs fall out of the playoff field.

MAC: Western Michigan (-2½) vs. Miami (Ohio) (11 a.m., ESPN): Miami won the first meeting 26-17 at home, but that was with DeQuan Finn at QB. It’s anybody’s game in Detroit. Broncos, 24-20.

SEC: No. 3 Georgia (-2½) vs. No. 9 Alabama (3 p.m., ABC 7): Hey, look, another rematch. The Crimson Tide took the first game 24-21 at Georgia, but the Bulldogs have looked like the better team lately. Payback? Nope — Tide again, 31-28.

ACC: No. 17 Virginia (-3½) vs. Duke (7 p.m., ABC 7): Duke has lost five times this season. The only way for this to end is with the Blue Devils winning in spite of themselves and leaving the ACC out of the playoff. Upset, 24-23.

Big Ten: No. 1 Ohio State (-4½) vs. No. 2 Indiana (7 p.m., FOX 32): In Indianapolis, the Hoosiers will be right in this thing — for a half. But it’s so, so hard to convert drives into touchdowns when the other team is, well, Ohio State. Buckeyes, 27-16.

Last week: 8-2 straight-up, 5-4-1 against the spread.

Season to date: 73-28, 50-50-1.
