SAN JOSE — One person was killed and another was injured in a solo-vehicle collision Tuesday night in South San Jose, according to authorities.
The crash happened around 11:05 p.m. in the 100 block of Madrone Avenue, west of Dougherty Avenue, San Jose police Officer Tanya Hernandez said in a news release.
An initial investigation revealed a 1998 Jeep Cherokee was traveling westbound on Madrone Avenue when it hit a cement wall at a creek crossing, according to Hernandez.
The passenger, a man, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver, a woman, was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, Hernandez said. She was later stabilized.
The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will release the man’s identity after it is confirmed and his next of kin is notified, according to Hernandez.
The collision marked the city’s 25th roadway death of the year. San Jose had recorded 37 traffic deaths at the same point in 2024, according to data compiled by this news organization.
