A Russian General has died after a car parked near his home in Moscow exploded as he walked past it.

Initial reports say 59-year-old Defence Ministry General Yaroslav Moskalik was thrown ‘several metres’ in the explosion.

An IED is thought to be behind the blast, with photos from the scene showing what appears to be shrapnel.

Yaroslav served as the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces and represented Russia’s General Staff in talks with Ukraine in 2015.

The attack, in Moscow, comes just days after the Russian capital was rocked by three explosions.

The car’s explosion sparked a fire, with billowing black smoke seen across the Russian capital’s skyline, just 15 minutes away from the Kremlin.

Authorities are investigating the explosions, but initial reports say they aren’t ruling out sabotage or terrorism.

Emergency services told local Russian media SHOT that an explosion occurred shortly before the fire broke out, and the flames quickly spread to nearby construction materials.

In 2022, a key Vladimir Putin supporter’s daughter was killed when a bomb went off in her car as she drove it in Moscow.

Darya ‘Dasha’ Dugina was killed after a suspected explosive device went off in a Toyota Land Cruiser.

Russia’s TASS state news agency quoted Andrei Krasnov, someone who knew prominent ideologue Mr Dugina, as saying the vehicle belonged to the father and that he was probably being targeted.

Her father has been described as ‘Putin’s brain’ and his beard and position have led some to dub him as the famous mystic Grigori Rasputin.
