One person dies after plane crashes just yards from homes near Saratoga County Airport

Two people were pulled out of the wreckage of a plane after it crashed in a residential area in Saratoga, New York.

The fatal crash happened near the Saratoga County Airport, where residents rushed to rescue the victims from the mangled plane.

The pilot has reportedly died while the passenger was seriously hurt the plane suddenly fell.

One witness said the aircraft had collided with a tree as it crashed to the ground.

County Sheriff Michael Zurlo said the plane crashed within just a yard of one home, narrowly avoiding the structure and parked vehicles.

Local weather reports said the area was being battered by 50mph gusts of wind at the time of the crash.

One local told Times Union that the wind was so strong he didn’t hear the plane hitting the ground.

The aircraft involved was a 1964 Mooney M20E with a capacity for up to four people.

It had been sold and changed ownership only last month.
