Six people had to be rescued after an open top tourist bus collided with a tree in London’s Russell Square this afternoon.
Photos from the scene on Bedford Way show the roof of the bus crumpled after the crash, with windows broken and metal supports pushed aside.
No-one sustained injuries serious enough to require hospital treatment, butparamedics treated patients at the scene.
It happened yards from the Tavistock Square bomb site, where one of the 7/7 bombers detonated an explosive on a bus twenty years ago.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said they were called at 2.37pm to the crash, which only involved one vehicle, a bus which had hit a tree.

They said: ‘Officers attended with the London Ambulance Service and the London Fire Brigade.
‘Those involved sustained minor injuries. The road remains closed.’
The open top style bus involved had a covered area at the front, which bore the brunt of the impact. Seats open to the air on the top deck were behind.
Fire crews used specialist cutting tools to secure the roof, and free the passengers.
It is not yet clear whether any of those involved in the crash were children.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said they were called at 2.35pm to the incident at the junction of the A4200 and Russell Square.
