Pair arrested on suspicion of operating brothels in San Jose

SAN JOSE – Two people were arrested late last month on suspicion of operating brothels in San Jose, according to authorities.

The suspects – identified as a 39-year-old Cupertino woman and a 45-year-old Rosemead man – were arrested on May 29 as part of a national operation targeting illicit massage businesses, San Jose police spokesperson Staci Shih said in a news release.

Detectives with the police department’s human trafficking task force investigated two business, one in the 300 block of West Julian Street and the other in the 1800 block of Sheri Ann Circle, according to Shih.

While serving search warrants at the sites, detectives encountered three survivors and provided them with resources.

The suspects were booked into Santa Clara County jail on human trafficking charges.

Shih said a total of 157 law enforcement agencies participated in the nationwide crackdown, dubbed Operation Coast to Coast, targeting 26 illicit massage businesses in 19 states. The operation resulted in 74 arrests and 88 survivors rescued.
