PALO ALTO — Police arrested a man Sunday after he allegedly threw a table at a man walking past him, authorities said.
The 42-year-old Palo Alto resident was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon, felony criminal threats and misdemeanor vandalism, according to a press release from the Palo Alto Police Department.
Police responded to a call of a man throwing chairs on the 100 block of University Avenue shortly before 10 a.m., police said.
When police arrived, they found that a man in his 30s had been walking on University Avenue when, without provocation, the suspect threatened to harm him, authorities said. The suspect and the victim did not previously know each other.
When the suspect picked up a table and threw it at the victim, the victim blocked it with his forearm, authorities said.
The suspect was taken into custody by police without incident, authorities said. The victim sought his own medical treatment for minor arm pain.
