Pasadena Heritage hosting party on Colorado Street Bridge

The Pasadena Heritage Bridge Party is set to take over the Colorado Street Bridge this Saturday, July 19.

Held every other year since 1978, this year’s event marks the 29th such bridge party. The party returned in 2023 following a five year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are excited to bring back this beloved and uniquely Pasadena tradition during a time where our community needs a feel-good event to gather,” Pasadena Heritage Chairman of the Board Michael Robleto said in a statement.

From 6 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. attendees can enjoy live music, food and beverages from 15 local restaurants, activities for kids and a display of vintage vehicles.

Founded in 1977, Pasadena Heritage is a nonprofit organization dedicated to historic preservation in Pasadena. The organization hosted the first bridge party in 1978 to protect the landmark which was in danger of being demolished.

The bridge is on the National Register of Historic Places and was built in 1912. It spans 1,468 feet with a maximum height of 150 feet. Safety measures have been added in recent years due to a history of more than 100 people jumping to their death from the bridge.

Restaurants participating in this year’s party include Robin’s Wood Fire BBQ, Dog Haus, Shake Shack and All India Café. Along with the vintage vehicles there will be a Waymo self-driving display.

Soccer practice with Angel City Football Club, a bungee jump, drum circle, face painting and a coloring book station are some of the highlights of the event’s kids zone.

The City of Pasadena said Colorado Boulevard will be closed from Orange Grove Boulevard to Linda Vista Avenue beginning Friday, July 18, at 2 p.m. until Sunday, July 20, at 5 a.m.

Tickets start at $30 and children under 12 can enter for free. To purchase tickets, visit pasadenaheritage.org/bridgeparty.
