Pasadena Playhouse announces its 2025/2026 season: Bold, Ambitious, Vibrant

Pasadena Playhouse has announced its 2025-2026 season, which includes a mix of contemporary and classical productions, a new musical, and programming for youth and families. The theater, which recently regained ownership of its historic campus for the first time in more than 50 years, will open the season in the fall.

The mainstage slate begins with Eureka Day (Sept. 10–Oct. 5, 2025), Jonathan Spector’s sharply written satire about a progressive school community unraveling over vaccination policies during a mumps outbreak. The play won the 2025 Tony Award for Best Play.

In November, the Playhouse will stage Amadeus (Nov. 19–Dec. 14, 2025), Peter Shaffer’s acclaimed drama exploring the rivalry between Antonio Salieri and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Originally premiering in 1979, the production has been mounted around the world and was adapted into the Oscar-winning 1984 film.

The spring will mark the world premiere of a newly adapted version of Brigadoon, with a revised book by Alexandra Silber. The Lerner and Loewe musical, first staged in 1947, centers on two American tourists who discover a mysterious Scottish village that reappears once every hundred years. The updated production will include a live orchestra and new choreography.

Mexodus, set for summer 2026, is a hip-hop musical written by and starring Brian Quijada and Nygel D. Robinson. The show focuses on a lesser-known narrative of the Underground Railroad—one in which enslaved people sought freedom by heading south to Mexico. The piece incorporates live looping and beat-driven storytelling.

The season also includes two youth and family-focused productions. Song of the North (Spring 2026), created and directed by Hamid Rahmanian, uses animated projections and puppetry to reinterpret stories from the Persian epic Shahnameh. It’s intended for children ages 6–12 and their families.

The Lizard & El Sol, a bilingual production designed for children, will be staged in the Playhouse courtyard and at select Pasadena-area parks. The show will be primarily in Spanish, but accessible to all audiences.

Memberships for the upcoming season are now available at pasadenaplayhouse.org.
