Pearl fire chars 138 acres in Larimer County with no containment

The Pearl fire burning in Larimer County has charred 138 acres and crews have made no progress in containing the wildfire, officials said Tuesday.

Larimer County sheriff’s officials said Tuesday the wildfire sparked on private property west of Fort Collins around 11 a.m. Monday and was human-caused, though no suspects have been publicly identified.

As of Tuesday morning, residents in Crystal Lakes and the area north of Lake Erie to the state line — including Black Mountain — were under mandatory evacuation orders, according to emergency personnel.

The Lake Erie and Mitchell Ditch areas remain under voluntary evacuation orders.

More than 2,000 contacts are under evacuation orders, sheriff’s officials said.

About 75 firefighters, as well as multiple air tankers and helicopters, were fighting the flames Tuesday, according to a news release from Arapahoe and Roosevelt National Forests officials.

Low temperatures and higher humidity levels are expected throughout the day, which should help ground crews fight the fire, forest officials said. However, 30 to 40 mph winds will be possible across the fire area Tuesday afternoon.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
