SAN JOSE — A pedestrian died on a South Bay freeway early Friday after being hit by a vehicle, the California Highway Patrol said.
The collision happened about 4:55 a.m. on northbound Interstate 280 just south of state Highway 17. According to the CHP, the pedestrian was walking along the freeway when the crash occurred.
The pedestrian ended up down in the HOV lane and died at the scene. Authorities did not identify the pedestrian, pending notification of relatives.
The CHP said the driver stopped and remained at the scene.
The CHP closed the far left two lanes of the freeway to investigate. They remained closed past 6:30 a.m.
