Person electrocuted in Blue Line subway in West Town on North Side

A person has died after coming in contact with the electrified third rail in the Blue Line subway, officials said.

The person was removed from the subway tracks in the 500 block of North Milwaukee Avenue by Chicago fire department staffers and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he died, according to the fire and police departments.

Blue Line service in the area has resumed, but is bypassing the Grand station after the incident that happened about 5:50 a.m., according to a CTA customer alert.

Earlier, trains were operating in two sections:
between O’Hare and Damen stops and between LaSalle and Forest Park stations only, according to the alert.

Earlier, customers were advised to consider other service alternatives that may serve your trip, such as nearby bus routes, or using buses to other rail lines while we work to provide alternatives. This may include the #56 Milwaukee, #70 Division, #66Chicago, #65 Grand, #20 Madison, the alert said.

Shuttle buses are also available from the Damen to LaSalle stations to provide connecting service in both directions.
