The popular San Mateo County Fair will close out its annual run this Sunday after a weekend full of cultural events, thrill rides and music.
Pacific Islands Day will be celebrated all day Saturday, followed by the Dia de la Feria on Sunday. Both events will feature music and dance performances and other cultural highlights, and a drone show will cap off the festivities.
The fair was originally called the ‘Little Flower Show’ in 1926 and was held in various schools around San Mateo County and sponsored by the Burlingame Garden and Flower Club. According to their website, it’s primary mission is to promote and educate the community about culture, technology, the science of agriculture, horticulture, arts and sustainability.
This year, a foal was born on site and named “Mateo.” He and his mom can be seen in the barn area near Gate 8, along with Mademoiselle Crème de la Crème, an interactive milking cow which fairgoers can try their hand at.
Many musical acts are on tap, including the Bay-Area based Jefferson Starship, which played the main stage on Thursday evening. There is also a stage for local performers.
New food vendors this year are the Lobster Shack, Boba King, Brian’s Baked Potatoes, Rick’s Pizza and Wetzel’s Pretzels. Click here for more info on the fair.
