Police allege East Bay man stole Nintendo games from libraries

Investigators arrested an Oakland man for allegedly stealing video games from Marin County public libraries.

The suspect stole about $10,000 worth of Nintendo Switch games at least seven times since April, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday.

Deputy Stephanie Ware said the suspect is a library member who checked out books. Library employees provided his identifying information to detectives, she said.

Jamal Reed-Obafumi, 45, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of 12 felony offenses, including burglary and committing a felony after being released from jail. He was arrested last month in a separate theft case in Novato, Ware said.

Reed-Obafumi was released from the county jail after posting a $50,000 bond, Ware said. Reed-Obafumi could not be reached for comment.
