OAKLAND — Police here have identified a 30-year-old man who was killed on Mother’s Day nearly three hours after an earlier homicide.
Daesjhon Grayson was found shot to death on the 600 block of 16th Street in Oakland, at about 10 minutes before midnight on May 11, authorities said. Grayson was reportedly living in a nearby shelter at the time.
Grayson was reaching into his backpack when he was shot, authorities said. Inside, officers reportedly found a handgun with an extended magazine.
No charges have been filed in Grayson’s death, but prosecutors did identify a suspect — another shelter resident — who was bleeding from the mouth a short distance from where Grayson was shot, and told police the two had fought. An eyewitness told police they overheard the man on the phone after the shooting, claiming to be the victim of an attempted robbery, authorities said.
About three hours before Grayson was shot, a 19-year-old Fresno woman was shot and killed on 17th Avenue and International Boulevard. Police say preliminary indications are that the two killings are unrelated.
Both investigations remain active.
