The popular American casual dining chain TGI Fridays has just 85 locations remaining in the US after shuttering over 100 over the course of a year.

TGI Fridays had less than 100 locations on its website as of Tuesday. The chain had roughly 270 restaurants at the start of 2024, CNN reported.

Its parent company filed for bankruptcy at the end of last year and at the time had 164 locations operating.

As part of the Chapter 11 process, the company has been closing more locations, including 30 in the past month.

TGI Fridays did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Metro on its number of remaining restaurants.

The company told CNN that it is ‘now led by franchisees, with a franchisee advisory board empowering and shaping brand-wide decisions’.

TGI Fridays had about 600 locations in its heyday in 2008.

The company declared bankruptcy in November, citing fallout from the coronavirus pandemic as the ‘primary driver of our financial challenges’. It stated that it was exploring ‘strategic alternatives in order to ensure the long-term viability of the brand’.
