Fire investigators are trying to figure out what caused a fire Monday morning that left an 8-year-old boy, a 17-year-old boy and a man critically injured in the Portage Park neighborhood.
Crews responded to a fire in a home in the 4000 block of North Austin Avenue about 6:15 a.m. and rescued the boy, a 34-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy, Chicago police said in a statement.
They were all taken in critical condition to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, with burns and smoke inhalation, according to the statement, which added that eight people were left homeless.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
