‘Prolific fraudster’ arrested in Pleasanton after follow-home robberies

PLEASANTON — A woman described by police as a “prolific fraudster” was arrested here after police identified her as the person who used a fake name to rent a car that was later used robberies, according to court records.

Latisha Lak, 26, of Houston, was arrested on pending fraud warrants in Texas and Arkansas, after a police surveillance team allegedly spotted her renting a car at a local Hertz under the alias “Jasmine Mam.” Lak was under surveillance after police determined she’d rented a vehicle that someone used to follow two people home from a San Leandro marijuana dispensary and rob them, authorities said.

In court papers, police have linked Lak to several instances of alleged fraud, including a 2022 bank fraud conviction from Arkansas involving dozens of co-defendants. The police surveillance team identified her from her Instagram page, @_chinesespoofer, according to court records.

Last August, the FBI put out a wanted poster of Lak identifying her as a fugitive in the fraud cases. Though she is currently listed as a Houston resident, police say she was staying in Pleasanton and was born in Stockton.
