Quarterback Joey Aguilar has transferred to Tennessee, a day after UCLA announced the arrival of Tennessee transfer quarterback Nico Iamaleava.
Aguilar did not share a statement on social media regarding his decision, nor did his management at Octagon issue a statement as of Monday afternoon.
The 6-foot-3, 220-pound dual-threat quarterback had transferred from Appalachian State to UCLA prior to the start of spring football practice and was a strong contender for the starting quarterback spot after taking first-team repetitions for the first half of spring practices. He set multiple records for the Mountaineers in 2023 before throwing for 3,003 yards with 23 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in his senior campaign.
The Bruins’ quarterback room maintains seven players after the swap. With Aguilar gone, rising redshirt freshman Luke Duncan leads the race for the backup spot and has taken reps with the second-team offense throughout the spring.
