Patchy clouds over the Bay Area brought with them the possibility of rain and lightning Monday, but the weather is “not going to be anything impactful,” according to the National Weather Service.
The NWS forecast Monday afternoon included a 10-15% chance of isolated thunderstorms in the Central Coast and parts of the South Bay through Tuesday afternoon. As far as thunderstorms, the forecast says, there is “a potential for dry lightning and subsequent grass fire starts.”
“Stay weather aware. When the thunder roars, go indoors!” the forecast advised residents.
A NWS meteorologist said around 3:30 p.m. Monday they had recorded “one or two flashings” of lightning over the San Jose area, though there was greater risk further south.
The Santa Cruz mountains received 0.01 inches of rain, according to the weather service, but there were no other measurable amounts of rain showing Monday afternoon on a National Weather Service map tracking rainfall.
