INGLEWOOD — Rams wide receiver Davante Adams’ status for Thursday’s battle with the Seattle Seahawks is in question after he re-aggravated a hamstring injury in Sunday’s 41-34 win over the Detroit Lions.
In the fourth quarter Sunday, Adams came up short on a route, hopping as he slowed down before falling face down to the SoFi Stadium turf. He stayed in that position as the Rams’ training staff came out to him before leaving the field and walking to the locker room on his own power.
Adams finished the game with four receptions for 71 yards.
After the game, head coach Sean McVay said that Adams did not rule himself out for the Week 16 game on Thursday, but that the short turnaround could prove problematic for the NFL’s leader in touchdown receptions to be on the field.
“We’ll see. He was optimistic talking to him,” McVay said. “He knows his body really well. … We’ll see what that means. I can’t imagine that’s good for Thursday with just the short amount of time but I certainly wouldn’t rule him out quite yet. But it didn’t look good.”
If Adams is ultimately ruled out, the Rams will be without one of their top offensive weapons when playing the Seahawks in a game between 11-3 teams that will determine who leads the NFC West entering the last two weeks of the season.
“Obviously, an outstanding football player, a huge part of our offense, a guy that’s put it in the end zone a bunch for us this year, so that’ll be a tough one,” quarterback Matthew Stafford said. “I don’t know the extent of it; didn’t look like it was a good one. So feel so tough for him, he’s been a warrior for us all year, to be honest with you, playing out there for us. I got a lot of faith and trust in the other guys that we have in our locker room.”
Witherspoon out
The Rams left cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon inactive for Sunday’s game. The team’s leading corner entering the season, Witherspoon returned two weeks ago from a broken scapula that left him out for 11 games. The veteran gave up six catches on seven targets last week against the Cardinals and was not a part of the Rams’ injury report this week.
