Rating the rookies: Bears QB Caleb Williams sits 4-12 as 2 peers fight for playoff glory

It’s not just Jayden Daniels. Bears rookie quarterback Caleb Williams might be watching two fellow first-round picks in the playoffs while he’s home wondering what’s next at Halas Hall.

As Williams faces the Packers on Sunday in a game so meaningless that there’s debate about whether he should play, Broncos rookie Bo Nix has a win-and-in game against the Chiefs and Daniels’ Commanders have already clinched.

Here’s a look at all five active first-round quarterbacks:

No. 1 overall pick: Bears QB Caleb Williams

Things are deteriorating around Williams, and he’s sliding, too. In a 6-3 loss to the Seahawks, he threw for 122 yards (his third-lowest total this season), had a 53.0 passer rating (second-lowest) and got sacked seven times (second-most).

No. 2 overall pick: Commanders QB Jayden Daniels

The Offensive Rookie of the Year race is over. Daniels leads the quarterbacks in most categories and his team is 11-5.

No. 3 overall pick: Patriots QB Drake Maye

Maye joins Daniels and Nix ahead of Williams’ 87.4 passer rating. He’s at 88.3 despite a rough game against the Chargers.

No. 8 overall pick: Falcons QB Michael Penix

Penix has much to learn but flashed potential with a touchdown pass in the final minutes against the Commanders to force overtime Sunday.

No. 12 overall pick: Broncos QB Bo Nix

One huge advantage for Nix: He’s playing behind a top-10 offensive line that has allowed him to be sacked just 24 times — about half of Daniels’ total and a third of Williams’.
