Ravens QB Lamar Jackson practices for first time this month

Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson made his first practice appearance since Sept. 28 on Wednesday. The team will update his status on its injury report later in the afternoon.

The Bears are preparing as though he will play Sunday, coach Ben Johnson said.

“We’ll approach it that he’s starting for them,” he said about a half-hour before the Ravens’ practice began. “That’s our starting point.”

Asked about his odds of playing after practice Wednesday, Ravens coach John Harbaugh said that it was “hard to put a number on it.”

Jackson hurt his hamstring Sept. 28 against the Chiefs. His two replacements — Cooper Rush and Tyler Huntley — haven’t fared well in two losses.

The Ravens had a bye last week. Coach John Harbaugh said last week he anticipated that Jackson would be able to play against the Bears on Sunday, and he reiterated that belief Monday despite the fact the Ravens held Jackson out of practice.

Jackson leads the NFL with a 130.5 passer rating and has run for 41.5 yards per game. His 10 passing touchdowns rank in the top half of starting quarterbacks despite the fact Jackson has only played in four games.

The Ravens are desperate for his return — at 1-5, time is running out for them to climb out of last place, much less contend for a playoff spot.

Huntley figures to play if Jackson cannot. He defeated the Bears 16-13 four years ago when Jackson was a late scratch because of an illness. Jackson has never faced the Bears.
