The Red Stars lost to the Kansas City Current 3-1 in their regular-season finale Sunday at SeatGeek Stadium and finished eighth in the NWSL, sending them to top-seeded Orlando for the first round of the playoffs Friday. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. on Prime Video.
Ally Schlegel scored in the 52nd minute for the Red Stars (10-14-2). The Current (16-3-7) scored three goals in the first half to set the record for most regular-season goals in league history with 57. The fourth-seeded Current will host North Carolina in the quarterfinals Saturday (11 a.m., CBS).
The other quarterfinal games are Sunday: No. 7 Bay FC at No. 2 Washington (11:30 a.m., ABC) and No. 3 New Jersey/New York, the defending champ, at No. 6 Portland (2 p.m., ABC). The championship game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Nov. 23 on CBS.
