A registered sex offender pleaded not guilty to charges that he stalked a woman in San Rafael.
Darrien James Humphries, 25, of Vacaville entered his plea during a Tuesday hearing. He is accused of committing the felonies of stalking and false imprisonment and the misdemeanor charge of being a registered sex offender on school property.
Judge Geoffrey Howard set the defendant’s preliminary examination for April 10. During that hearing, the judge will review evidence and determine if the case is fit for trial.
Humphries is accused of following a woman, making lewd comments to her and then blocking her from leaving on March 19. Both parties briefly entered the grounds of a nearby private preschool, police reported.
The defendant was ordered to register as a sex offender after he was convicted of sexual battery in Santa Clara County.
Humphries remains in custody at Marin County Jail where his bail was set at $100,000. Public defender Nicole Tiger declined to comment after the Tuesday hearing.
