SAN JOSE – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents carried out a raid Tuesday in South San Jose, arresting at least four people, according to police and media reports.
The operation happened near the intersection of Blossom Hill and Snell roads, a San Jose police spokesperson told this news organization.
As first reported by NBC Bay Area, masked ICE agents arrested the four people as they arrived at an immigration site for an appointment. Agents told bystanders they were targeting people with a judicial order for removal, according to the news station.
The police spokesperson said agents called the police department for assistance after protesters showed up at the scene and began yelling.
One lieutenant was dispatched “to ensure no other crimes were occurring and to remind agents that we did not get involved in immigration enforcement,” the spokesperson said.
No crimes were committed and the lieutenant left the scene a short time later, the spokesperson said.
ICE did not immediately return messages seeking additional details about the operation.
