The New York Yankees won’t have third baseman Miguel Andújar for the rest of the season. After struggling with shoulder issues all year, Andújar has decided to undergo season-ending surgery, according to MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch.
The 24-year-old Andújar played in just 12 games this season due to the injury. Andújar initially injured himself in the team’s third game. He tore his labrum while diving for a ball.
Andújar was placed on the Injured List in hopes that he could return. Once he came back, Andújar struggled at the plate, hitting just .088 in 34 plate appearances following his first IL stint.
The Yankees placed Andújar back on the IL on Monday. After undergoing a second round of imaging, Andújar decided season-ending surgery was the way to go.
