RICHMOND – A visible flare at the Chevron Richmond Refinery prompted a level one Community Warning System notification Saturday afternoon.
The Bay Area Air Quality Management District noted it is aware of the flaring and has inspectors on site responding to the situation, which has triggered public complaints. Officials are documenting and investigating any potential violations of air quality regulations and are assisting first responders as needed.
“Residents should follow instructions from local health officials. The Air District is monitoring this closely,” the Bay Area Air Quality Management District said in a statement.
According to Chevron’s social media page, the alert issued did not require an emergency response or community action.
“The safety of our workforce, our communities and the environment are our highest priorities,” Chevron officials said in the posting.
A quick check on air quality data from Chevron on Saturday afternoon did not indicate a strong impact on local air quality.
This is a developing story. Come back for updates.
